Antediluvian Lifespans

Why did people before the flood live so long?

Why don't we live beyond 120 years old?

The sum of the years of the First Age.

From Adam unto Noah’s flood are years 1656.

For when Adam was 150 years old he begat Seth.

Seth being 105 years, begat Enos.

Enos, being 90 years, begat Cainan.

Cainan, being 70 years, begat Mahaleel.

Mahaleel, being 65 years, begat Jared.

Jared, at the age of 162, begat Enoch.

Enoch, being 65 years, begat Methuselah.

Methuselah, at the age of 187, begat Lamech.

Lamech, being 182 years, begat Noah.

Noah, at the coming of the flood, was 600 years old, as appeareth in the 7th chap. of Genesis.

Genesis 6:3

6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

1656 years

Timing the antediluvian period

According to Bishop Ussher's 17th-century chronology, the antediluvian period lasted for 1656 years, from Creation (some say the fall of man) at 4004 BC to the Flood at 2348 BC.

Antediluvian - Wikipedia

We view longevity as 100 years, not 1,000. Yet we read in the antediluvian genealogy (Adam to Noah) that most life spans approached a millennium: Adam lived to 930, Seth to 912, Enosh to 905, Cainan to 910, Jared to 962, Methuselah to 969, and Noah to 950 (cf. Gen. 5:1–32; 9:29).

Such extreme longevity made it possible for the antediluvian generations to pass along an accurate record of human history to postdiluvian civilization. For example, Adam lived long enough to know Methuselah, and Methuselah lived long enough to know Noah.

He fashioned them in His likeness and image.

The earth was a completely different world before the flood, the canopy of crystalline water like a bubble around the earth was one of the biggest reasons why the earth was different and why people lived almost a thousand years. The edge of the earths atmosphere was closer to the earth because of this canopy, creating higher pressure, thats why it didn’t rain. The atmosphere was also richer in oxygen, Gad made that world perfect, the canopy blocked uv rays so there was no such thing as free radicals, people didn’t age quickly like we do now. I can’t explain everything like I want to but go on YouTube and watch Dr Carl Baugh’s creation in symphony: the model and God will open ur eyes to a lot of these questions. God bless

There’s undisputed evidence that giants ( nephilims) existed in the bible. Genesis chapter 6:4 tells of such along with scriptures found in Numbers 13:33 and Deuteronomy 2:11. Jude 1:6 sheds light to a plausible reason on a cause which was a result of the development of such giants. This encroachment was performed by angels. ANGELS !! A mystery to imply would be the fact the giants continued to exist after the flood. That is through Noah and his son’s,wives and there bloodline. One theory is to suggests it carried through there DNA. Although one could conjecture the matter of the earth being ecologically different therefore enhancing man’s physical characteristics. Althought the earth then possessing a richer oxygen content suggesting this contribute to man living longer no known evidence is sufficient to definitively say this played a role in making himself of abnormal statue. Hence, Adam and Eve plausibly being a giant themselves.

Og was a giant that lived during the time of Abraham and Moses which was after the flood, I’ve often had conversations about how Og and other giants like Goliath got here after the flood.. I found an article one time on how the those giants descended from one of Noah’s daughter in-laws that had a bloodline from the pre-flood giants, very interesting.. the Bible isn’t clear on some things like the giants but one thing it is clear on is salvation thru the belief in Jesus Christ and his death and resurrection, Glory to God for his grace!!!

What is The Firmament?

Genesis 1:7-9

King James Version

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

Bracketing that are +/– 1 standard deviations (solid lines) and the longest- and shortest-living individual alive each year (dashed lines). The 100-year delay represents the time between the birth of Shem, Ham, and Japheth and the onset of the Flood.

Sumerian King's List

Lines 1–39: before the flood[edit]

This section, which is not present in every copy of the text, opens with the line "After the kingship descended from heaven, the kingship was in Eridu." Two kings of Eridu are mentioned, before the city "fell" and the "kingship was taken to Bad-tibira". This pattern of cities receiving kingship and then falling or being defeated, only to be succeeded by the next, is present throughout the entire text, often in the exact same words. This first section lists eight kings who ruled over five cities (apart from Eridu and Bad-tibiru, these also included Larag, Zimbir and Shuruppag). The duration of each reign is also given. In this first section, the reigns vary between 43,200 and 28,800 years for a total of 241,200 years. The section ends with the line "Then the flood swept over". Among the kings mentioned in this section is the ancient Mesopotamian god Dumuzid (the later Tammuz).

Lines 40–265: first dynasty of Kish to Lugal-zage-si[edit]

"After the flood had swept over, and the kingship descended from heaven, the kingship was in Kish." After this well-known line, the section goes on to list 23 kings of Kish, who ruled between 1500 and 300 years for a total of 24,510 years. The exact number of years varies between copies. Apart from the lengths of their reigns and whether they were the son of their predecessor (for example, "Mashda, the son of Atab, ruled for 840 years"), no other details are usually given on the exploits of these kings. Exceptions are Etana, "who ascended to heaven and consolidated all the foreign countries" and Enmebaragesi, "who made the land of Elam submit". Enmebaragesi is also the first king in the Sumerian King List whose name is attested from contemporaneous (Early Dynastic I) inscriptions. His successor Aga of Kish, the final king mentioned before Kish fell and kingship was taken to E-ana, also appears in the poem Gilgamesh and Aga.

The next lines, up until Sargon of Akkad, show a steady succession of cities and kings, usually without much detail beyond the lengths of the individual reigns. Every entry is structured exactly the same: the city where kingship is located is named, followed by one or more kings and how long they reigned, followed by a summary and a final line indicating where kingship went next. Lines 134–147 may serve as an example:

In Ur, Mesannepada became king; he ruled for 80 years. Meskiagnun, the son of Mesannepada, became king; he ruled for 36 years. Elulu ruled for 25 years. Balulu ruled for 36 years. 4 kings; they ruled for 171 years. Then Ur was defeated and the kingship was taken to Awan.[7]

Individual reigns vary in length, from 1200 years for Lugalbanda of Uruk, to six years for another king of Uruk and several kings of Akshak. On average, the number of regnal years decreases down the list. Some city names, such as Uruk, Ur and Kish, appear more than once in the Sumerian King List. The earlier part of this section mentions several kings who are also known from other literary sources. These kings include Dumuzid the Fisherman and Gilgamesh, although virtually no king from the earlier part of this section appears in inscriptions dating from the actual period in which they were supposed to live. Lines 211–223 describe a dynasty from Mari, which is a city outside Sumer proper but which played an important role in Mesopotamian history during the late third and early second millennia BC. The following third dynasty of Kish consists of a single ruler Kug-Bau ("the woman tavern keeper"), thought to be the only queen listed in the Sumerian King List. The final two dynasties of this section, the fourth of Kish and the third of Uruk, provide a link to the next section. Sargon of Akkad is mentioned in the Sumerian King List as cup-bearer to Ur-zababa of Kish, and he defeated Lugal-zage-si of Uruk before founding his own dynasty.
